I graduated in 2012 from St. Mary’s College of Maryland with a degree in chemistry. After this I completed a master’s program also at St. Mary’s College majoring is secondary science education. My master’s thesis focused on improving the representation and success of traditionally under-served groups in the science fields. I began teaching high school science in Anne Arundel County in the suburbs of Baltimore City. I was a teacher intern in the forest ecology lab at the Smithsonian Environmental Research Center in 2015 that summer I also completed the Chesapeake Bay Foundation’s environmental literacy program in. In 2016 I relocated to Florida and began my doctoral studies in science education at the University of Florida where I am working on a grant with a goal of increasing the retention of underrepresented groups in undergraduate engineering programs.
