McGuffey High School
Hello. My name is Kaitlin Mitchell, and I am a Junior from Western Pennsylvania. I’m a fourth year member of the marching band and one of the clarinet section leaders. I’m a third year member of the drama club as well. I am in my second year as a docent at the Oglebay Good Zoo. I have loved the environment from a young age and I’ve always dreamed of working in an environmental field. This started with a love for animals that had me reading about how to become a veterinarian from the time I could hold the book myself, later in my childhood I longed to become a zookeeper but the vet idea was still quite prominent. In my early teen years I found myself watching crime shows which inspired me to pursue animal forensics as a career path. This was until I went to WYSE 2016, the topics were compelling and the speakers inspired me to choose a new path that could merge all my previous choices into one job, conservation. After WYSE I knew that I wanted to become a conservation scientist, to save and protect the animals that made my childhood wild. This is why I am honored to be a member of the WYSE Youth Advisory Board, so that I have a say in the events that may very well decide someone’s career for WYSE 2017.
