Amy Takayama-Perez, WYSE founder and former Executive Director, passed this summer from a two-year battle with Triple-negative breast cancer. A visionary and champion of higher education, Amy established WYSE to help students discover their passions and explore careers in environmental science. Her legacy serves as a reminder of the privilege and responsibility we have to improve the world through education, compassion, and relationships.
To honor Amy’s dedication to increasing college access, The Amy Takayama-Perez Memorial Fund for George Mason University has been established. The fund is accepting donations that will benefit students in the WYSE program.
Amy’s influence on WYSE and George Mason University will never be forgotten. Because of Amy, the program has served thousands of students since its inception in 2010. The alumni, faculty, and staff of WYSE are forever grateful for her commitment, love, and support. We will forever honor her memory.
