The health and safety of students is a top priority at WYSE. Given the current status of COVID-19, we have developed a set of plans and procedures to ensure students and staff who participate in WYSE take precautions to prevent the spread of illness. All families who participate in WYSE will receive detailed instructions and requirements for attendance.
Our campus community at George Mason University has been diligent in preventing the spread of COVID-19. WYSE is working closely with campus leadership to ensure all of our policies and procedures follow university protocol. We will continue to update our policies and procedures as new information on COVID-19 is available.
All students and staff will be required to get a COVID-19 test prior to and upon arrival on the campus of George Mason University. Students will also be asked to complete a daily COVID Health Check per university policy before exiting their room each morning and joining the group for the day.
All students and staff are required to follow social distancing and hygiene protocols, including wearing face coverings and frequently washing hands. Details on social distancing at all on- and off-campus venues and during transportation and meals will be provided prior to student arrival.
Students will be placed in a cohort with other participants for all housing, dining, and transportation activities. Cohorts will be led by faculty and will be reduced in size to allow for adequate social distancing during meals and bus travel.
Each student will be housed in an individual room and bathroom. Students are asked to follow all social distancing and mask requirements when not in their individual rooms. WYSE staff will continue to enforce our longstanding policy that students may not enter the rooms of other students.
Students who display COVID symptoms or test positive for the virus must be picked up by a family member within 4 hours of the onset of symptoms or of receiving a positive test result. The WYSE team will work closely with the family in the event a student is required to leave the program.
All students who register for WYSE will be provided a welcome packet with details on required procedures before arrival, during the program, and upon departure. Staff are available to answer any questions students and families have about our COVID-19 protocols, general health and safety, and general program information.
