Luke Bertaux

LUKE BERTAUX

Luke Bertaux is a 2022 graduate from The University of Tulsa in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Luke earned a BS in Computer Information Systems with a minor in Cybersecurity.  During his time on campus, Luke has interned with a sustainable development coffee firm in Panama, worked in both on-campus housing and the Office of Admission, and served as a peer tutor. Luke attended WYSE in 2017 where he developed a passion for sustainable and urban development, made lifelong friends, and traveled alone away from home for the first time. In September, Luke will be moving to Spain to pursue a Fulbright grant where he will teach at the University of Málaga.

Michael Fuentes

MICHAEL FUENTES

Michael is currently a senior at North Babylon High school in Long Island, New York.  He loves to help others and touch lives in any way he can. He has executed and aided in many service projects with the Salvation Army, the Coalition for the Homeless of Long Island, and for the Belmont Lake State Park citizens with his park cleanups. He’s a curly haired, nature loving guy with a love for sports, animals, who can’t wait to make an impact on WYSE and help many new people experience the awesomeness of WYSE.

Sean Foss

SEAN FOSS

Sean is a junior at Huntingtown High School.  He attended WYSE in the summer of 2021. Sean’s hobbies are hiking, biking and listening to music. Sean has been interested in the environment for a while. In the future, Sean wants wants to work in environmental policy. He wants to help shape the laws that impact the environment.

Lauren Novorska

LAUREN NOVORSKA

Lauren Novorska is going to be studying Ecosystem Science and Policy at the University of Miami in the fall.  Lauren attended the 2021 WYSE Conference and absolutely loved the experience! She is passionate about human-wildlife conflict, climate change, and educating students about ecological issues. She volunteers as a Mentor Volunteer for the Humane Society of Tampa Bay and completed her Girl Scout Gold Award on “Advocacy for Animals.” Lauren leads a service organization called Lend a Paw at her school to help get students involved in animal welfare issues and community service, and is a part of the CARE club. She also serves as a member of the Conservation Nation and WYSE Youth Advisory Boards. Lauren hopes to be a part of everglades and Florida ecosystem conservation projects and work on educating people about conservation and how they can take action to help save our species. In the future, she would like to pursue environmental law and policy!

Allen Yuan

ALLEN YUAN

Allen Yuan is a rising sophomore at the University of Maryland in College Park, Maryland, where he is a part of the Design, Cultures, and Creativity Honors College.  He is currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science and Policy, with which he hopes to use towards his endeavors of creating a sustainable future that is not only environmentally-sound but also successfully serves every demographic. His interest in environmental conservation began with a childhood obsession with cetaceans, which has unwaveringly transferred to the present. Allen’s hobbies include baking, figure skating, reading, singing, and hanging out with friends. He hopes to help make WYSE 2022 as special and valuable of an experience as it was for him!

Aaron Morton

AARON MORTON

Aaron Morton is a senior at Atkins High School in Winston-Salem, NC.  He is a member of his school’s Varsity Science Olympiad team and is a member of Conservation Nation’s Youth Advisory Board. He is passionate about birds and the environment and will be studying Conservation Biology at George Mason next year as a part of the honors college. He hopes every delegate can nurture their love for the environment at WYSE, and can’t wait for them to have the time of their lives.

William Pickard

WILLIAM PICKARD

William Pickard is a rising senior at Pamlico County High School, where he serves as a Chief in the NJROTC, runs track and serves as Captain of the Drone Team.  When William is not at school or at his part-time job, he enjoys sailing, playing basketball, reading, running or spending time with friends and family. William participated in WYSE during the summer of 2021 and is thrilled to be returning this summer as an Intern. He lives on the coast of North Carolina in Oriental, along the Inner Banks.

Samantha Foor

SAMANTHA FOOR

Samantha is a freshman at Youngstown State University, in Youngstown, Ohio.  She attended WYSE in the summer of 2021, after her original summit in 2020 was canceled due to the world wide pandemic. During her free time, she likes to read, color and do research on The Amazon Rainforest. Samantha is extremely passionate about the preservation of wildlife and the world around us. At Youngstown State, she is pursuing a major in biology, with the hopes of someday being able to help with the conservation of animals and their habitats.

SERCAN GOKTURK

Sercan Gokturk is currently a senior at North Babylon High School in Long Island, New York. Sercan enjoys solving problems and impacts people through research and service, empowering others to do the same. He enjoys nature’s beauty and using scientific reasoning to spark new ideas and solutions that can resolve today’s society’s enduring issues and perplexing questions. He is ready to make WYSE 2021 an experience that will motivate, influence, and encourage you to make a positive everlasting change to the world.
